I’ve been having a fun summer so far as a Mercedes-Benz social ambassador. Last month, I was spoiled with luxury at Nautica Vista. A few weekends ago, I was treated once again to a fabulous experience at Walnut Beach Resort.
I headed to Osoyoos for a VIP experience at the 1st Annual Livewater Double Up Pro-Am Wakeboarding Competiton.
On Friday evening, Black Betty and I checked into Walnut Beach Resort. Black Betty insisted on getting her photo taken at the gorgeous entrance to the hotel.
I drove Black Betty into her underground parking spot for the night (that rear camera comes in handy when parking!) and checked into my lake view room. I was pleasantly greeted with a welcome note and a complimentary bottle of wine from the kind people at Walnut Beach Resort.
The next day I woke up to the most gorgeous view from my hotel room. The Okanagan’s beauty never ceases to amaze me!
I could hear the DJ starting to bump the beats from the beach so I headed down to check out the wake boarding competition. Evidently, I wasn’t the only one scoping out the scene.
A crowd was starting to gather on the resort’s licensed beach area.
The professional wake boarders had already begun gearing up to head out on the water. I just so happened to be on the dock at the right time, as I was invited out on the boat with the pros! B-Spontaneous, right?
Watching these dudes and one dudette (yay Girl Power) flip around on the wake was insane! They made it look easy which it most definitely is not!
Incredible, right? Check out this video compilation shot by one of the wake boarders, Brenden Lieb.
What is really cool about this competition is that the judges are the wake boarders themselves, which makes winning even sweeter!
The winners list below:
1. Steve McKinley
2. Brenden Leib
3. Matt Bibby
1. Rich Baadsvik
2. Nicole Elliot
Congratulations to all the wake boarders, hope to see you all next year!
The next day, on the drive home I kept seeing signs along the road for BBQ. I eventually spotted a tiny little trailer on the side of the road in an RV Motel parking lot, across from a Sikh temple. This was definitely the most random place I have ever seen a food cart! I noticed the meat smoker on site and knew I just had to try it.
Oooooo-weeee it was some good bar-be-que! There are four flavours of BBQ sauce to try from and we ordered every dish we could. All of the sauces are made from scratch by the friendly owner himself. My favourite is the “North Carolina Red” which is quite tangy. Then again, I really liked the Alabama Great White on the cole-slaw. I also enjoyed the Kansas City Sweet and Spicy on my pulled pork sandwich… What the heck, I loved them all! We sat at the picnic table on the grass and enjoyed the most ‘spontaneous’ lunch ever!
If you are ever passing through Oliver and see this bbq trailer, pull over and as the sign says ‘Get yer BBQ’ at Hammer’s House of Hog.
After filling up on some grub and some gas for Black Betty, we headed out for the drive home – but not before Black Betty insisted on posing for another photo-op!
Stay tuned for my next Mercedes-Benz ambassador adventure!
